What we do...

The MSAW with the collaboration of the Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security has launched a “Free Mass Sterilization Campaign” since September 2015 in order to control the canine population from proliferation. This long-term project is basically to solve the problem of stray dogs spreading around the island more specifically in urban and coastal region.

The Communication and Humane Education department of the MSAW also work upon strategies to sensitize the citizens about the importance of this campaign by delivering talks in schools, Social Welfare Centres, Community Centres and Village Halls. We identified that the root cause of stray dogs is uncontrolled production of dogs by careless owners. Alongside the “Free Mass Sterilization Campaign”, the MSAW staff ensures that the public is made aware about its objectives and teach them kindness, discipline and generate a sense of responsibility towards their pets and to all the animals in general.

In the perspective to promote animal welfare, the MSAW organises various activities to raise awareness. We encourage pet owners and animal lovers to participate in Dog shows, Pet shows, Dog training demos, Inter College Quiz, National debates to teach and advise the public for the loving and caring of their pets. One of our main activity is also the rehoming process whereby we organise Adoption Days so that our dogs and cats find responsible and caring owners.

Our inspectorate department provides assistance to the public to help in dealing with issues pertaining to stray dogs. The MSAW is constantly reviewing its mode of operation for better planning and keeps on evaluating its campaigns.

Adoption (Dogs and cats)

An adopted pet can enrich your life. The unconditional love and loyalty of a dog or cat can give you a reason to get up in the morning. Most of our pets have been victims of cruelty, abandoned or have been suffering.
